SKILLS
Eleven skills that level up as you play, with perks, abilities and level rewards.
Updated
Skills level up on their own as you play: mining raises Mining, catching Pokémon raises Catching, and so on. There are 11 skills, each with a level cap of 300. Higher levels unlock perks that get a little stronger with every level, and set levels pay out a reward you claim from the skill menu. Skills work the same on the Pixelmon and Cobblemon servers.
THE SKILL MENU
/skill (or /skills) opens the Skill Codex. It lists every skill with its level and XP bar, and for the skill you select it shows each perk's value now and at the cap, plus that skill's level rewards.
HOW EACH SKILL EARNS XP
- Mining · break stone and ores with a pickaxe. Rarer ores and deepslate ores give more, and ancient debris gives the most.
- Woodcutting · chop logs with an axe.
- Excavation · dig dirt, sand, gravel, clay, mud, snow and similar blocks with a shovel.
- Farming · harvest wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroot, nether wart, cocoa and sweet berries.
- Combat · kill hostile mobs. The Warden, the Wither and the Ender Dragon give the most.
- Catching · catch wild Pokémon. Higher level Pokémon give more XP.
- Battling · win battles. A wild battle gives XP based on the level of the strongest Pokémon you beat, and a trainer or player battle gives a set amount.
- Apricorn Picking · pick apricorns and berries.
- Fishing · fish up Pokémon. Higher level Pokémon give more XP.
- Breeding · hatch eggs in the Day Care. Higher IVs, perfect IVs and a hidden ability add bonus XP.
- Agility · survive falls of 4 blocks or more. Longer falls give more XP, up to a limit.
Each level needs more XP than the one before. When a skill levels up, chat tells you, along with any perk that unlocked or got stronger.
PERKS
Each perk unlocks at a set level, then improves with every level after that until it reaches its cap. The numbers below are the value at unlock, the gain per level and the cap.
- Mining · Double Drops from level 5 (5%, +0.17% per level, up to 55%). Ore Upgrade from level 25, a chance an ore drops a better material, such as raw iron turning into raw gold (2%, +0.08% per level, up to 24%).
- Woodcutting · Double Drops from level 5 (5%, +0.17% per level, up to 55%). Extra Drops from level 20, a chance of bonus items from logs (1%, +0.06% per level, up to 18%).
- Excavation · Metal Detector from level 10, a chance of treasure when you dig with a shovel (0.5%, +0.067% per level, up to 20%).

- Combat · XP Multiplier from level 15, more XP orbs from hostile mobs (1.1x, +0.006x per level, up to 2.8x). Double Drops from hostile mobs from level 25 (5%, +0.15% per level, up to 50%).

- Agility · No Fall Damage from level 5, a chance to take no damage from a fall (5%, +0.3% per level, up to 95%).
ACTIVE ABILITIES
Three skills unlock an ability you switch on yourself: hold the right tool, sneak and right-click.
- Super Breaker · Mining, from level 40. With a pickaxe, blocks your pickaxe can mine break instantly while it is active.
- Tree Chopper · Woodcutting, from level 30. With an axe, breaking a log fells the connected logs of the tree.
- Super Shovel · Excavation, from level 35. With a shovel, blocks your shovel can dig break instantly while it is active.
An ability runs for a set time that grows with your level. Chat tells you when it starts and when it wears off, and the timer next to your hotbar shows the time left and any recharge time before you can use it again.
LEVEL REWARDS

SKILL TOMES
A Skill Tome adds XP to one skill when you right-click it. Some tomes give a set amount of XP, others a percentage of the XP between your current level and the next, and the tome's description says which skill and how much. A tome cannot be used on a skill that is already at level 300.
LEADERBOARD AND ABILITY TIMERS
- /skill top · the top 10 players by total level across all skills, and your own rank.
- /skill top <skill> · the top 10 in one skill, for example /skill top mining.
- /skill hud · shows or hides the ability timers next to your hotbar. The Skill Codex has the same toggle.
While an ability is active, its timer shows the tool's icon with a countdown, and it turns gray while the ability recharges. The timers need the ModernMenus mod, which comes with the MineFury modpack.
